Negligent security

August 2024

Kelvin Bonham, 27, rode his bicycle to a friend’s house located in the Gwen Cherry housing projects. Bonham waved to a Feick Security guard, who allegedly recognized him from the neighborhood. Shortly after, an unknown person confronted Bonham and fatally shot him. He is survived by his four minor children.

Bonham’s estate sued Miami Dade County and Feick Security, alleging negligent security. The plaintiff asserted that Feick had failed to advise the county of security measures that needed to be taken at the property, which had a history of crime that was underreported to the county.

The parties settled for $1 million.
