Failure to recognize coronary artery disease
September/October 2023Doe, 64, experienced exertional chest pain and nausea and described these symptoms to Roe physician and Roe nurse practitioner. She continued to report these symptoms in a subsequent remote visit with the nurse practitioner. Doe, who allegedly was diagnosed as having gastritis, continued to experience these symptoms and again reported them to Roe physician.
Doe subsequently suffered a massive heart attack, which led to her death. She is survived by her children.
Suit alleged that the physician, nurse practitioner, and a medical group were liable for failure to recognize the signs and symptoms of coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure, order testing such as a stress test, and refer Doe to a cardiologist for treatment. The plaintiff did not claim lost income.
The plaintiff and defendants reached a settlement in the case in the amount of $500,000.
