Failure to recognize coronary artery disease

Doe, 64, experienced exertional chest pain and nausea and described these symptoms to Roe physician and Roe nurse practitioner. She continued to report these symptoms in a subsequent remote visit with the nurse practitioner. Doe, who allegedly was diagnosed as having gastritis, continued to experience these symptoms and again reported them to Roe physician.

Doe subsequently suffered a massive heart attack, which led to her death. She is survived by her children.

Suit alleged that the physician, nurse practitioner, and a medical group were liable for failure to recognize the signs and symptoms of coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure, order testing such as a stress test, and refer Doe to a cardiologist for treatment. The plaintiff did not claim lost income.

The plaintiff and defendants reached a settlement in the case in the amount of $500,000.
