Tad Thomas Sworn in as New President of Plaintiff Trial Bar

July 19,2022

Washington, DC — The American Association for Justice (AAJ®) is pleased to announce that Louisville, Ky., trial lawyer Tad Thomas was sworn in as the new president of AAJ during the 2022 Annual Convention in Seattle. Thomas is the founder and managing partner of Thomas Law Offices which has offices in Louisville, Ky., Chicago, Cincinnati, and Columbia, Mo. Thomas is licensed to practice in Kentucky, Illinois, and New York.

A dedicated member of the association, Thomas has been a member longer than he has been practicing law. He joined the association as a law student to participate in the association’s nationwide mock trial competition, Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC).

“I’m proud to have been an AAJ member since 1999 – my whole legal career has been shaped by this association. The STAC mock trial competition planted a seed in me to pursue a career of protecting the rights of individuals,” said Thomas. “It is my great honor to serve as the president of this organization which looks out for access to justice, defending the right to trial by jury for everyday Americans who are physically and financially harmed by big corporations.”

Thomas practices on a wide variety of cases with extensive experience in nursing home neglect and abuse, and serious personal injury. Before founding his firm, he worked as the Assistant Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Kentucky overseeing four divisions—Office of Civil and Environmental Law, Office of Consumer Protection, Office of Rate Intervention, and Office of Medicaid Fraud.

Thomas is a firm believer in harnessing the power of technology to improve the practice of law and travels the country giving seminars and educating other plaintiff attorneys about embracing new online and digital tools. He is a Champion of the National College of Advocacy, AAJ’s education arm, the highest level of honor for completing a rigorous curriculum of seminars, colleges, and conventions. Thomas belongs to many associations and is a Past-President of Southern Trial Lawyers Association and a long-time board member of the Kentucky Justice Association. An active AAJ member, Thomas has taken on leadership roles in various committees and was notably a member of the first AAJ Leadership Academy class in 2013, the Association’s successful program to promote diversity among its membership and leadership.

The AAJ officers joining Thomas include Immediate Past President Navan Ward Jr. in Atlanta; President-Elect Sean C. Domnick of Domnick Cunningham & Whalen in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Vice President Lori Andrus of Andrus Anderson LLP in San Francisco; Secretary Bruce Plaxen of Plaxen Adler Muncy, P.A. in Columbia, Md.; Treasurer N. John Bey of Bey & Associates in Atlanta; and Parliamentarian Marion Munley of Munley Law in Scranton, Pa.
