If you have voir dire, then you have to attend AAJ Education’s Voir Dire Workshop. You’ll learn trial-tested techniques from nationally-recognized faculty and gain hands-on experience from two mock juries.

Lisa Blue, J.D., Ph.D.
Lisa Blue, J.D., Ph.D., is a past president of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), and in January 2020 she became the first female President of the National Trial Lawyers. In 2019, Ms. Blue was a finalist for the Public Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year award. She has been named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America; Top 50 Women Litigators in the U.S. by the National Law Journal; Top 50: Women Texas Super Lawyer; Top 100: Dallas/Fort Worth Super Lawyer; and Top 100: Texas Super Lawyer. Ms. Blue co-authored Blue’s Guide to Jury Selection (AAJ Press/West) and has received Diplomate status in AAJ’s National College of Advocacy Masters of Trial Law professional recognition program. Ms. Blue is a generous PAC Eagle donor, and Baron and Blue, PLLC, a Leaders Forum member, is located in Dallas, Texas.
Doris Cheng has been ranked as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Northern California, is the Program Director of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Western Region Advocacy Teacher Training Program, is the current President (former Secretary) of the San Francisco Bar Association, and immediate Past President of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association. Ms. Cheng is a co-author of the eminent Rutter Group California Practice Guide on Personal Injury, and the trial practice guide, Mastering the Mechanics of Civil Jury Trials. Ms. Cheng is a Shareholder at Walkup, Melodia, Kelly, and Schoenberger in San Francisco, California.
Michael P. Doyle, Course Advisor
Michael P. Doyle, course advisor, focuses his practice in personal injury, insurance, admiralty, maritime, and workplace injury litigation. He is a past president of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association; he serves on AAJ’s NCA Board of Trustees; he is an AAJ PAC Platinum M CLUB donor; and he has received Diplomate status in the NCA Masters of Trial Law professional recognition program. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Attorneys (ABOTA) and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. Doyle LLP, an AAJ Leaders Forum member, has offices in Houston and Galveston, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona.
Richard A. Jenson
Richard Jenson is a successful litigation consultant who has been effectively helping attorneys choose juries and try cases since 1986. Mr. Jenson has extensive credentials as a professor, social researcher, and lecturer. In 1980 he left a career with Universities, where he was an administrator and taught in the social research and communication field, to open a business doing marketing and political consulting. He soon also began helping attorneys with litigation research and consulting. Since 1994, he has been concentrating exclusively on trial consulting, legal public relations, and conducting research for lawyers throughout the United States in case preparation and jury selection. Mr. Jenson has been involved, as lead consultant, in numerous high-profile cases, involving product liability, personal injury, patent, and commercial cases. Mr. Jenson is the founder of Jenson Research and Communications.
Christopher J. O'Brien, Course Advisor
Christopher J. O’Brien, course advisor, concentrates his practice in representing seriously injured people. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, has a 10.0 AVOO rating, and was listed in the Buffalo Law Journal’s Legal Elite’s Top 10: Best of the Best. He is a past president of the Western Affiliate of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA), is a past co-chair of AAJ’s NCA Board of Trustees, and has received Diplomate status in AAJ’s NCA Masters of Trial Law professional recognition program. Mr. O’Brien is an AAJ PAC M Club donor. He is a partner at O’Brien & Ford, PC, which is located in Buffalo, New York.
Michelle Simpson Tuegel
Michelle Simpson Tuegel has a national practice handling wrongful death, personal injury, and civil sexual abuse and assault cases. A former world-ranked athlete in slalom water skiing, Tuegel now uses that competitive drive and intensity to champion clients’ cases. She was named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 25 Women Trial Lawyers (2019), Top 100 Trial Lawyers (2014-2020) and Top 40 under 40 (2017-2020); D Magazine’s Best Lawyers Under 40 in Dallas in 2020; and to the Texas Rising Stars list, the Up-and-Coming 100 lawyers, and Up-and-Coming 50 Women lawyers. Ms. Tuegel served on the board of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (2016-2018), and she currently serves on the honorary board of the Texas Advocacy Project and the Executive Committee of the National Trial Lawyers. Michelle is a partner at Simpson Tuegel in Dallas, Texas.
Robert Swafford is the founder and owner of Strike for Cause Jury Consulting, as well as the creator of the Strike for Cause Method of Jury Selection. Mr. Swafford attended Baylor University where he received his B.A. in Economics and his J.D. from Baylor Law School. He has extensive training in powerful listening and effective speaking, as well as expertise in the field of ontology. Ontology provides the foundation for the Strike for Cause system. Mr. Swafford has lectured on the subject of effective Voir Dire at seminars sponsored by the State Bar of Texas, Texas Trial Lawyers’ Association, and numerous other local bar associations.
Non-AAJ Members are welcome to attend AAJ Education's Voir Dire Workshop--invite a plaintiff trial lawyer colleague! However, attendance is limited to those engaged primarily in civil plaintiff representation or criminal defense representation.

AAJ has filed for MCLE credit in the appropriate jurisdictions. Registered participants can receive CLE* credits depending on the jurisdiction and will be applied to your participation in AAJ’s professional recognition program. AAJ Education programs are routinely accredited by states requiring continuing legal education. Available CLE/MCLE credits are contingent upon approval from state bars and/or MCLE boards and may vary by jurisdiction. Cancellations received in writing on or before February 6, 2020 will result in a refund less a 10% administrative charge or a voucher for 100% of the registration fee, which may be applied toward any AAJ Education college, seminar, or webinar held within one calendar year of the date of issue. Cancellations received in writing February 7-21, 2020 will result in a voucher for 100% of the registration fee, with the same restrictions mentioned above. Requests for refunds or vouchers received after February 21, 2020 will not be honored. AAJ is not responsible for any room cancellation fees or other travel fees which result from your cancellation.
