What is something you do at work that is considered old-fashioned?

January 2025

I keep a paper calendar on my desk with all my hearings, teleconferences, and trials scheduled on it. I love technology and my case management system, but I need this visual in front of me.

Chuck L. Holliday, Holliday Law, Jackson, TN

I go into the office every day!

Kate Feroleto, Feroleto Law, Buffalo, NY

I like to handwrite my notes with a pen and paper at client meetings, at hearings, and in preparation for hearings.

Pat Gallagher, Jacobs & Crumplar, New Castle, DE

Certain people still use two spaces after a period, which is no longer the standard. The rule applies to all end punctuation. It is my personal grammar-police hill to die on.

Jayson T. Hamrick, Bailey Javins & Carter, Charleston, WV

I use paper.

Jackie Olinger Rochelle, Bailey & Glasser, Saint Louis, MO

I leave voicemails, optimistically hoping that folks will listen to them. Not sure why voicemails have gone out of style—they enable the listener to be prepared for the conversation to follow.

Peter Everett, Blankingship & Keith, Fairfax, VA

I don’t use dictation software or other AI tools. This is mostly because technology isn’t my natural habitat, although I’m adept enough to utilize what I need. This decision was a bit frustrating when I was recovering from rotator cuff surgery.

Stephen L. Hoffman, Law Office of Stephen L. Hoffman, Chicago, IL
