August 2024

Teresa Carr, a 43-year-old clerk, was on a walkway that led to her workplace when she slipped on ice and fell, injuring her back. Her injuries necessitated lumbar decompression surgery. Her workers’ compensation claim was denied.

Carr sued her employer, Monarch Electric Co.; the property owner, 1250 South River Road LLC; and snow removal contractor Custom Care Services, Inc., alleging failure to remove the ice on the walkway.

The plaintiff received a $2.25 million arbitration award.
