Inadequate staffing
September/October 2023Doe, a nursing home resident, allegedly was dropped out of a mechanical lift onto her knees. She suffered leg fractures; however, the facility allegedly failed to inform Doe’s family or physician about the full extent of her injuries. As a result, a 22-hour delay allegedly occurred in obtaining appropriate medical care for Doe, who subsequently died of complications from her injuries.
Suit against the nursing home alleged poor quality of care, inadequate staffing, and failure to provide a safe environment. The plaintiff asserted the two-person lift device had been operated by just one person.
The parties settled for $1.2 million.
