Failure to implement fall prevention strategies
November/December 2023Hattie Covington was admitted to Hillcrest Center, suffering from dementia, muscle weakness, anemia, hypertension, and other health problems. Just over two years later, Covington, who had a history of falls, allegedly fell out of bed, fracturing her left tibia and fibula. Her physical condition declined, and she died approximately one month later.
Her estate sued the facility’s owners and operators, alleging improper monitoring, failure to implement appropriate fall prevention measures, and failure to timely identify Covington’s injuries.
The parties settled for $130,000.
