Bipartisan Consensus – It’s Time to Remove Section 230 Immunity for Big Tech
May 22,2024WASHINGTON, DC — The following is a statement from American Association for Justice CEO Linda Lipsen on the Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee Hearing: “Legislative Proposal to Sunset Section 230 Of The Communications Decency Act":
“Parents who lost their children and Americans dealing with the trauma of sexual assault, eating disorders, extreme stalking and a growing list of other harms perpetrated by Big Tech are currently outside the reach of justice because of Section 230 immunity. As advocates for these victims, we appreciate the bipartisan consensus today to sunset Section 230. For nearly 30 years, Section 230 immunity has allowed Big Tech to escape responsibility for pervasive and insidious harms. If no one is accountable, no one is safe - Big Tech must be held to the same standards as every other corporation."
AAJ member Carrie Goldberg, Founding Attorney, C.A. Goldberg, PLLC testified and represents the plaintiff in Doe v. Grindr, a case where AAJ recently filed an amicus brief.
