Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/RSD

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome / Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is a condition of the sympathetic nervous system that leads to dystrophy of the affected limbs and constant severe pain to the afflicted person. It can be controlled and sometimes stopped if diagnosed promptly.

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy was diagnosed over 100 years ago, with the first cases reported during the Civil War. Today, it continues to be a catastrophic illness resulting from injury. Even with the severity of this illness, some physicians question its existence, especially during the initial stages, when the physical evidence is not readily apparent. This is a serious problem as time is of the essence when diagnosing and curing this disease. Diagnosing Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy too late may foreclose any chance of arresting the disease or affecting a cure. Currently, cases involving Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy occur either as a result of a personal injury leading to the onset of the condition, or a medical malpractice action stemming from the failure of the physician(s) to properly diagnose or treat this disease either in time or, as sometimes happens, at all. This litigation group was formed to better educate and prepare its members to handle cases involving, in one fashion or another, this complex disease.

This Group acts to disseminate information among the members on current medical and legal issues involving Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. Members of the group have a wide array of printed materials and contacts and will educate its members on new information and sources of information as it becomes available.

The Group also maintains lists of pertinent examples of pleadings that may be useful. The Group also compiles a list of medical experts whose opinions and information are helpful in prosecuting a case involving Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. In addition, the Group compiles verdicts and settlement reports to aid members in their dealings with insurance companies and defendants.
