Washington, DC—Lewis S. “Mike” Eidson, President of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), issued this statement upon the announcement by President Bush that the nomination of Michael Baroody to serve as chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission has been withdrawn.
“As a top lobbyist for corporate manufacturers, Michael Baroody was singularly unfit for the important job of chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Given his track record of lobbying against initiatives intended to keep Americans safe, Baroody would have been the fox guarding the henhouse, and his decision to withdraw is welcome news.’’
