Washington, DC—Minneapolis attorney Kathleen Flynn Peterson, one of the nation’s top litigators in the field of medical malpractice, has been elected President of the American Association for Justice for 2007–2008.
Flynn Peterson was chosen to lead the 52,000-member organization, the world’s largest trial bar, during AAJ’s annual convention in Chicago this week.
Flynn Peterson, who began her career in patient advocacy as a registered nurse, is a partner of the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. As a specialist in medical malpractice, Flynn Peterson represents individuals and families who have experienced injury or death as a result of medical negligence. She was cited as a "Leading Minnesota Attorney in Medical Malpractice as Selected by Peers" in the Law & Leading Attorney Guidebook.
“I consider it an honor to serve as president of the nation’s leading bar association defending the civil justice system,” said Flynn Peterson. “Our attorneys are dedicated to making sure that individuals injured by the misconduct and negligence of others can get justice in the courtroom—even when it means taking on the most powerful interests.”
An AAJ member for 26 years, Flynn Peterson has been a member of the Board of Governors since 1995 and most recently served as AAJ President-Elect. She has also served on AAJ's Executive Committee, Judicial Independence Committee, and on the board of the National College of Advocacy, AAJ's educational division, for which she is also a lecturer.
Flynn Peterson is a past president of the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association and a past recipient of AAJ's Lifetime Achievement Award (1999). Flynn Peterson received her B.A. in nursing from the College of Saint Catherine in 1976, and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 1981.
AAJ promotes justice and fairness for injured persons, defends the constitutional right to trial by jury and strengthens the civil justice system through education and disclosure of information critical to public health and safety. The association provides lawyers with the information and professional assistance they need to serve clients successfully and protect the democratic values of the civil justice system. AAJ is dedicated to a vital civil justice system ensuring that the most powerful special interests are held accountable for wrongdoing.
Also elected during the association’s 61st annual convention were: Les Weisbrod, President-Elect; Anthony Tarricone, Vice President; C. Gibson Vance, Secretary; Gary M. Paul, Treasurer; and Richard Golomb, Parliamentarian.
