Regular Member
is licensed to practice law and for the most part, based on caseload and time, represents the plaintiff in civil litigation or represents the defendant in criminal litigation. Has the right to vote and hold any office in the Association. Benefits include TRIAL magazine, list servers, Practice Sections and Litigation Groups, AAJ Exchange, Conventions, AAJ Education , Membership Directory, and discounts on books, audio recordings, and videos.

Associate Member
is licensed to practice law and does not otherwise qualify for any other membership class. Associate Members may not vote or hold office. Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include list servers, Litigation Groups, AAJ Exchange, Conventions, and eligibility to become a Sustaining, President's Club, or Leaders Forum member of the Association.

Government Member
is licensed to practice law and is in the full-time employ of any local, state, or federal government agency or public defender. A Government Member may not vote or hold office. Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include list servers, Litigation Groups, AAJ Exchange, and eligibility to become a Sustaining, President's Club, or Leaders Forum member of the Association.

Law Professor Member
is engaged in full-time teaching of the law at any accredited law school or college and is licensed to practice law in any country, state, or jurisdiction. A Law Professor member may not vote or hold office. Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include Litigation Groups, AAJ Exchange, and eligibility to become a Sustaining, President's Club, or Leaders Forum member of the Association. Law Professor Members may use Section list servers and certain other list servers if they are sponsored by a voting Member.

Military Member
is licensed to practice law in any country, state, or jurisdiction, and is in the full-time active service of the armed forces of the United States. A Military Member may not vote or hold office. Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include Litigation Groups, AAJ Exchange, list servers, and eligibility to become a Sustaining, President's Club, or Leaders Forum member of the Association.

Law Student Member
is a law student engaged in a course of study at a law school. A Law Student Member may not vote, hold office, or become a Sustaining, President's Club or Leaders Forum Member of the Association. Law Student members have their own list server, receive From Classroom to Courtroom newsletter, may obtain an AAJ Mentor, are eligible for AAJ scholarships and AAJ's mock trial competition, may attend selected AAJ Education programs at no charge, receive TRIAL magazine by e-mail in digital form, featuring keyword searching, links to online resources, and a digital archive of back issues. (Students may purchase the course materials for $75.) Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include Litigation Groups, list servers, and AAJ Exchange.

Law Graduate Member
has received a degree in law from an accredited law school or college but has not been licensed to practice law. No person may continue as a Law Graduate Member for more than one year. A Law Graduate Member may not vote, hold office, or become a Sustaining, President's Club, or Leaders Forum Member of the Association. A Law Graduate receives TRIAL magazine by e-mail in digital form, featuring keyword searching, links to online resources, and a digital archive of back issues. Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include Litigation Groups, list servers, or AAJ Exchange.

Paralegal Affiliate Member
has membership in an affiliated unit of AAJ composed of paralegals. Must be sponsored by a Regular, Sustaining, Life, or President's Club Member of AAJ in good standing. A Paralegal Affiliate may not be a member of AAJ in any other classification except the affiliated unit and may not vote. Paralegal Affiliates have their own list server and an accredited paralegal program at each annual convention, receive The Paralegal Source newsletter, and receive a 50% discount on selected AAJ Education programs when they attend with an AAJ attorney member.Other benefits are the same as for Regular Members but do not include Litigation Groups or AAJ Exchange.
